BEAUTY IS IN THE DETAILS | How to Accessorize Your Home

To many, the look and feel of a well-appointed room are found by following a well-worn and structured path of guidelines – but at Peach Tree Designs, the décor of a room rises above ‘the design rule book’ and puts the power of creation back in your hands.

This home furnishings boutique prides itself on a selection of unusual and distinctive pieces that invite conversation, inspire the senses, and reflect the personality of those living in the home. It’s the little touches – plush pillows, framed prints and one-of-a-kind mirrors – that offer you a chance to express your own unique sense of style. Naples Store Manager, Stacie Carroll offers some advice for elevating your room beyond the realm of the expected – and into the extraordinary!

Color your World

Don’t be afraid of color! Color gives a space personality.  Carroll suggests, “Having one bright statement piece really creates a sophisticated look. Repeating the color in smaller bits gives a ‘true designer feel’ while pulling your room together.  And, I like how these two bold patterns work together, the wall covering and the zebra print.”

Mix it up

Mix a variety of textures and finishes when arranging accessories – rough wood, pewter, ceramic, glass, leather and even sprigs of greens are used in this living room to create an intriguing display.

Layer it

Whether decorating with mirrors, books or candlesticks, layer the elements to create depth.  This grouping on a mantel is unexpected.  Carroll continues, “Asymmetrical vignettes are the most interesting.  Mirrors or artwork are a great addition to any vignette, but it doesn’t have to take center stage.” When offsetting them, choose other elements, like candlesticks or vases full of tall flowers, to create balance in the space.

Go Small and Tall

Choose accessories with differing heights, which will allow the eye to move around the display rather than gazing past it.  Carroll shares, “Gather similar items together for maximum impact, like this set of three shorebirds.  I also like arranging things in odd numbers.”

Get Inspired

Artwork on the wall will also acts as part of your vignette, so keep that in mind when arranging your accessories.  Carroll adds, “I love this mix of inspirational sayings and mirrors in a similar color tone on the wall.  The sideboard is exceptionally long, so keeping the accessories displayed on it cohesive is a must!  This grouping of topiaries mixed with trays in a similar finish work really well together.”

Make it Shine

Add in glass and metallic accessories throughout the vignette for a tiny glimmer of glam. Nothing like a little reflective sparkle to add light and glimmer to a room.

Bring the Outside Inside

“We love using a mix of real and artificial botanicals in our rooms.  Silk plants have come a long way over the years, and they just add life to any space,” shares Carroll.  In addition, trees are a great way to fill a corner in a room. Don’t forget to mix in some beautiful greenery to bring a room to life!

Create the Total Package

Carroll advises, “This space effectively showcases all of our accessorizing tips: the splash of color from the bright red leaves on the cocktail table, the layering of accessories in front of the mirror on the right, the grouping of accessories (in varying heights) on the console to the left, the use of differing textures and finishes, and a great use of botanicals.”

Since 1978, Peach Tree Designs offers a wide selection of handpicked accessories, fine furnishings, unusual gifts, and interior design services. Carroll, whose mother started the family business nearly 35 years ago, sees finding the right accessories as an adventure, “We strive to find unique, one-of-a-kind finds that no other shop can offer – coming here is definitely an experience.”
