Suncoast : Home Tour : Stately Charm

Two triple palms, flanked at the entrance of this stately home, beckon guests to take a journey to a more relaxing side of life. The low maintenance stucco exterior expertly compliments the distinct architectural details such as a large barrel tile roof, elegant columns, and wood and glass French doors. A concrete paver driveway laid in a cobblestone pattern with contrasting border creates a majestic feel – while more subtle elements like the deluxe chimney cap add a pleasing pop of the unexpected. Builder John Cannon takes prides in handling every aspect of design and construction. “We’re turnkey – when we turn the house over to a customer, they can just show up with a toothbrush and suitcase – it’s ready for them,” says Founder John Cannon of John Cannon Homes.

A captivating full bar with four leather bar stools allows effortless access to a large wine refrigerator and a beer tap incorporated right into the countertop. Lighted custom cabinetry with glass fronts create an appealing space and serves as an excellent transition piece to encourage guests to work their way throughout the home.

In the living room, an impressive, curved aquarium-glass wall overlooking the pool brings the beauty of the outside in. The room simply brims with elegance -— from the recessed step ceiling to the linear, natural gas fireplace with crushed glass bottom. A plush Century velvet sofa, paired with wingbacks and white swivel chairs encourages a casual fireside chat. No attention to detail has been overlooked in this inviting home — even with regard to the artwork. “Julie Zimmer, a central Florida artist, was provided with fabric and commissioned to integrate silver leafing into the paint to tie in to the gold, copper, and silver color palette of the room,” describes Natalie Kibler, Senior Designer for Soco Interiors.

The fun and playful bonus room upstairs holds a cool Vegas appeal. Used as a theater and recreation room, the space offers a billiards table, card table, and special cork plank flooring that looks identical to the home’s wood floor, but adds additional acoustic properties. A magnificent, sculpted drywall ceiling lends to the artsy vibe and is accentuated by a glitzy Arteriors Home Chandelier and circle-shaped Regina Andrews lamps. Another striking piece is an eye-catching onyx bar that is illuminated from underneath, creating a surreal backlit glow. A custom-made, lemon grass colored sofa ties in the room’s artwork and accessories.

Regal wood clad columns stained Espresso brown separate the foyer from the dining room. The rich walnut finished credenza and table are accompanied by graphite, silk, floral damask side chairs – while a recessed niche, wallpapered in mica, lends a more formal flair to the room and gives added punch to the illumination of wall sconces. Sumptuous silk floor-to-ceiling draperies accentuate the room’s indigo, charcoal, and cream color palette.

The contemporary family room features a sliding glass wall leading to a spacious summer kitchen. Both areas share the texture of stylish stacked stone. A large rug, in hues of gray and gold, serves to emphasize the stone’s natural coloring. The comfortable leather sofa, scalloped drum shade lighting fixture, and upholstered ottoman by Lee Industries encourage lounging, while the dark-wood stained beam ceiling adds richness to the room. Mirrored side tables and lamps wrapped in white birch complete the space.

The modern kitchen is equipped with a Jenn-Air double wall oven, built-in refrigerator, and warming drawer. Every effort has been made to make this space as livable and functional as possible. The bar stools have been custom upholstered with a durable Sunbrella Fabric — and the walls of the bar wrapped in a detailed vinyl wallpaper to discourage scuff marks. The tile backsplash consists of marble slivers laid vertically to add shimmer and shine. The room’s coffered hexagon shaped ceiling is backlit as well as illuminated by an industrial chic lighting fixture by Robert Abbey.

The family’s teenage daughter has perhaps the most enchanting room in the house. A pleasing purple and turquoise color palette and a lacquered grass cloth Bungalow 5 desk with a silver grey leather chair offer an inviting study area. The room’s fully upholstered bed adds elegance, while velvet pouf chairs and a shag rug bring a youthful vibe. A large antiqued mirror that cleverly conceals a full jewelry storage credenza is a focal point for a bedroom that is every teenage girl’s dream.

A Century Omni bed paired with architectural, silver, walnut, Caracole nightstands bring a luxurious feel to the master bedroom. A unique carved-wood chest painted in a metallic finish draws the eye. Vanguard woven recliners and nickel accent tables placed in an adjacent sitting alcove create a welcoming presence. A backlit, triple step ceiling with crown molding, and attractive silk and viscose rug from Surya, create a distinctive master retreat.

The elegant master bath is designed to soothe the senses. Imported marble flooring, set on the diagonal, perfectly accentuates the impressive MTI freestanding tub. Sculpted back tile in a wave pattern offers a touch of the unexpected. Wall-to-wall mirrors and suspended cabinetry with back lighting expand the space. A remarkable mitered glass walk-around shower reveals a landscaped outdoor courtyard. When you stand in this expansive glass shower room, you have the illusion of being outside.

This home’s stunning pool area comes complete with an LED-lit pergola highlighting a raining waterfall suspended between drystack ledge stone columns. With a spa, sun shelf, abundant accent lighting, and exterior furnishings from Summer Classics, lounging by the pool is a joy. “I love taking someone’s vision, blending it with the realities of construction, and making it even better,” concludes Cannon.
