Suncoast : Home Tour : Tuscan Transitional

The John Cannon Homes Kiandra home touts Tuscan exterior details and an open, airy interior with bonus space for modern fun and function. Located in Country Club East at Lakewood Ranch, a private gated community, this model features the best of lakeside living. At more than 3,600 square feet, the home offers plenty of space for living and entertaining. A bonus room, exercise room, a spa and pool with an expansive deck and lanai areas grant home buyers all of the function they need as well as providing lush natural views.

When Country Club East added the Seacroft neighborhood to its existing villages, built around lakes and nature preserves, John Cannon Homes selected the homesite for The Kiandra, “based on the design of the home and its view of the lake,” according to Cannon. In fact, adds Cannon, “We designed the home on site to best capture the afforded views” was a favorite aspect of The Kiandra project for Cannon and his design team.

The Kiandra’s architectural details begin with the exterior stone and brick accents. A variety of stone and natural surfaces complement one another. For example, the Flagstone St. Augustine Castillo 6” x 9” Indian Summer pavers in the motor court and entry lend earth tones, while the Studio Blue Green paint on the shutters provide a pop of color. Ledge stone and brick accents surround the arches adjacent to the double walnut-stained front doors. The home’s exterior stucco paint color — Sherwin Williams Casa Blanca — provides a neutral canvas for the cut stone details and charming painted shutters.

The home has a three-car garage with Clopay doors in an ultra grain walnut finish and short panel square grilles. The welcoming ThermaTru front doors have rustic strap hinges and a deep walnut stain. The house is sited on a parcel more than 18K square feet in size. “Each of the home sites are 90 to 100 feet wide with lake or preserve views,” describes Cannon.

The Kiandra boasts rooms for any family’s needs. It features three bedrooms, a great room, dining room, kitchen with breakfast area, study, exercise room and bonus room. The rooms and design make the home feel spacious and open. The foyer’s ceiling is more than 14 feet, and leads to a great room around which the other rooms center. The foyer and great room flooring, both made of 7.5-inch wide Mohawk Artistica Cobblestone Oak, an engineered hardwood, match the warm tones of the intricate stepped ceiling and the Sherwin Williams Natural Tan paint.

From the great room, homeowners or guests can reach the back lanai, kitchen and dining areas, and a hall that leads to the study, exercise room and master suite. Arched doorways from the foyer echo the home’s exterior design. “Arched entries add to the architectural elements in the design of the home,” says Cannon. “These are the sorts of details we believe are important,” he adds.

Those architectural details are subtly repeated throughout The Kiandra, yet each room of the home has unique touches. For example, the kitchen’s clean lines transition beautifully to the curves afforded by the Francois Regent pewter polished hood. The kitchen’s stepped ceiling is painted Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray flat finish and the 6” x 8” box beams in clear cypress and perimeter cove moulding covered with Sherwin Williams Pure White.

Maple cabinetry in Snowflake color tone with Shaker narrow style doors and beaded inset edges provide ample upper cabinet storage. Amerock polished chrome hardware adds a contemporary and clean look. All of the kitchen’s dovetail drawers have soft closing guides, and upper cabinets have single-light glass doors that are finished with white interiors. The island cabinets feature French Roast-stained walnut Shaker doors. The island is equipped with an Elkay Clayton stainless steel sink with a Moen Align single handle hi-arc pull down faucet. A SubZero Wolf Cabinet paneled refrigerator to the right of the cooktop adds a seamless look, blending with the cabinets. Adjacent to the refrigerator is a hidden pantry.

The home’s study/office features the same white crown moulding that runs throughout the kitchen and entire home, with warm tones and clean lines. “We created a calm working environment with expansive views of the rear of the home, pool, and lake,” describes Cannon.

The home’s master suite provides plenty of space and relaxation as well. It includes an expansive master bath and sitting area, along with a separate entrance to the master lanai. The master bath custom vanities are fashioned from quarter-sawn white oak-weathered grain and feature his and her wall-hung cabinetry with full-height doors and roll-out drawers. They’re finished with a Driftwood stain with brown glaze and Amerock hardware. Signature Hardware Tea Green glass-flat bottom vessel sinks add a pop of color to the natural, but contemporary feel of the room. At the perimeter of the shower’s ceiling tower in the master bath, the use of Rope lighting lends an elegant glow.

The soft grays in the walls and décor of the master bedroom are complemented by the ceiling tray, which is painted with Sherwin Williams Tony Taupe and surrounded by white crown moulding. The master suite sitting room doors lead to the home’s back lanai area.

Once on the lanai, it’s easy to enjoy the best of all that living near a nature preserve has to offer. The back of the home features both a family and master lanai area along with an outdoor kitchen all surrounding the infinity edge pool. A Giallo Ornamental countertop with a flat polished edge covers the outdoor kitchen/cabana bar. A 30-inch Memphis Pro Grill with a 36-inch Wall Rane hood and chimney extensions provides the best in outdoor cooking, and the kitchen is made complete by an outdoor stainless sink from Sterling with a Moen Camerist chrome faucet. Sarasota Stone cabinets with Laticrete bright white grout and a Sandpebble stucco finish are highlighted by the backsplash finished with Sherwin Williams Meadow Lark paint.

The pool leads the eye to the endless views of the natural habitat beyond. But the luxury and appeal of the home persists. The front of the pool features a spa, and the entire pool deck is covered with a clear view screen. “The screen virtually disappears to reveal stunning lake views,” says Cannon. Overall, the Cannon team enjoyed working in the setting and on the design of the Tuscan-inspired modern home. “We were very excited to design and build a home that is clean and crisp for today’s modern style of living,” emphasizes Cannon.
