The intrinsic beauty of this 8,718-square-foot under air, six-bedroom, six full- and three half-bath home was enhanced by renovating its entrance. An ornate metal cage and precast columns were removed from around the front door to create a more open and welcoming entrance and the entire exterior lightened to a warm white.
“Out with the old and in with the new” was the aim of the renovation of this beautiful Naples home in Mediterra. Harwick Homes and Collins & DuPont Design Group teamed up to strip all outdated architectural elements and, making use of the fabulous bones of the structure, reveal the true beauty of this home.
“The clients have a young family and use this residence all year round for short trips. They wanted the design to be clean, open and simplified,” says Shane Klepko, vice-president of Harwick Homes. “We were called in by the interior designers, which often happens, as almost all of our remodeling projects enlist talented interior designers. The rest is up to us and we know our role and play our part. It’s an added bonus that we love what we do. Our clients appreciate that we are here not only to build their home, but here decades later when they wish to remodel it. Clients are comfortable with the fact they can call and talk to the same person over the years and we are very glad we have such close and long standing relationships with our clients.”

Now the focal point of the room, the fireplace’s subtle glamour is augmented by Fine Art Lamps’ crystal starburst Lily Buds chandelier in the adjoining entry foyer and, in the room itself, a Beveled Arc pendant. Each of the fabrics Collins & DuPont selected adds subtle metallic light. Kravet Couture stationery panels elevate the eye, taupe silk shimmers on the twin high-backed Marge Carson chairs and linen blend-clad Theodore Alexander armchairs. The lighter silver of the Santa Barbara sofa is accented by softly shining pillows. A mahogany coffee table and silver leaf quatrefoil table are also by Theodore Alexander. Commissioned hand-blown glass discs by Kristine Daniels adorn the wall. On the console, Floating Clouds, a sculpture from John Richards, reflects the light from the Cascading Crystal floor lamp. The subtle silver Fabrica International rug ties together each glistening element.

The reimagining of the kitchen and breakfast room involved a fifty-percent rebuild and refinishing by Harwick Homes. The dark travertine floor was replaced with a Turkish select French Vanilla marble. Non-structural precast columns were removed and remaining ones covered in painted wood moulding. All arches were squared off and head heights raised. Cabinets were refinished in a dark walnut stain to mimic the newly stained ceiling detail in the family room and the custom entertainment cabinet. A Cristallo quartzite countertop was installed. LED ceiling lamps replace old yellow-toned light, and Currey & Co. Zanzibar fixtures in the kitchen and over the breakfast table supplement with a soft glow. Tapered dining chairs with a contrast gunmetal fabric band flank a smoked glass table and bar stools, upholstered in faux ostrich leather, are both by Vanguard.
Designer Amy Coslet and company president Sherri DuPont of Collins & DuPont Design Group understand a thing or two about longevity themselves. Says Coslet, “We strive to make every design timeless. Instead of following only today’s trends, we fuse them with classical elements to ensure every design is as relevant ten years from now as it is today.”
“With that in mind, we approached this project with traditional ideas interpreted through a contemporary lens,” agreed DuPont. “From the color scheme and clean lines of the finishes we chose to the classic and livable furnishings, we believe we achieved the perfect balance of elegance and simplicity.”

In this elegant dining room, coffered ceiling details were removed and the floor redone in 24-by-24-inch French Vanilla marble. Ice silver banded Stroheim and Romann stationary side panels were hung at 18 feet to give the appearance of squaring the arched widow. Twin sculptures with elegant swaying stainless steel spheres sit on either side. A John Richards cascading crystal waterfall chandelier hangs above the 72-inch square custom walnut table. Two settees and a quartet of Jessica Charles side chairs offer seating for eight.

An oil rubbed bronze Regency fan hangs from the simplified ceiling detail, now sporting a dark walnut stain. A Burton James sectional is upholstered in oatmeal-toned Sunbrella fabric to stand up to the rigors of children, and a polyester charcoal fabric serves the same purpose for the Jessica Charles swivel chair. The asymmetrical Hickory White table allows room for twin caster stools to be tucked underneath when not in use.

A sculptural MTI New Yorker oval air bath tub is paired with a free-standing Brizio faucet. The master bath floors were redone with a neutral limestone. A crystal and gold-banded Corbett chandelier illuminates a much more sophisticated room.

Multiple levels of the tiered ceiling were removed and a plain alcove, once housing a Tuscan mural, creates a more serene master bedroom. A Marge Carson bed with rich Bombay finish, cashmere silver accents and nailhead trim complement the pearlized leather headboard. Custom bedding features lavish and sequined pillows. Mercury glass lamps top Marge Carson Iona nightstands. A walk-in closet on the far wall was renovated to become the lady-of-the-home’s private retreat.

A stained glass transom was removed and the height of the game room doorway elevated to modernize the design. Open shelves overhead were enclosed in backlit amber glass. Regina Andrew Design bomber jacket leather barstools accented with nail-heads line the existing bar, which retained its distressed maple cabinetry. A Brunswick billiards table is lit from overhead by an oval Currey & Co. chandelier in this fun, family space.

The designers updated the existing staircase, modernizing the rails, adding metal spindles, and carrying the hardwood flooring onto the stair treads for a clean, sophisticated look.
