Distinctive Details

This West Indies-influenced home has 7,603 square feet under air, and plenty of room for visitors. Two garages—one attached and one detached—connected by a breezeway, afford space for three cars and a golf cart. Bahamian shutters shield the sun and Kichler Harbor Row classic carriage-style lanterns from Lighting First illuminate the curved driveway leading to the motor court and custom Acadian metal and glass front door.

Imagination and creativity make for good storytelling. Residential designer and builder Bill Ennen of Florida Lifestyle Homes embraced that idea when he envisioned the future owners of this spacious Naples home on the championship golf course in the sought after Quail West community. He thought of a well-traveled couple, rich with family and friends, who want to return home from their journeys to an airy and welcoming space all their own, with no fuss or clutter.

The West Indies look of the home, as evidenced by the Bahamian shutters, flat roof tiles, decorative brackets, and soothing color scheme, recalls the best of tropical design with a clean simplicity that appeals to today’s high-end buyers. But Ennen makes certain that each of his designs is as unique as the eventual homeowners themselves.

The barrel-curved painted beam ceiling arches upward three feet above this elegant study; one more of Florida Lifestyle Homes’ intricate ceiling designs. A Hudson Valley cube chandelier of charcoal and gold metal sporting Edison bulbs is supplemented by LEDs inset into the Driftwood finish custom-built cabinetry by Allure Cabinetry, and by the shimmery floor lamp by Arteriors. Window treatments of multi-toned chevron cut silk are hung high to accentuate the ceiling detail and allow light through the transom-topped windows. A two-sided stained birch partners’ desk is topped with ¾-inch glass.

The great room’s towering 18-foot geometric tray ceiling sets the scene in this impressive space. Custom Dove White Oyster finished cabinetry by Allure Cabinetry of Naples floats on the television wall faux finished with capiz shells and mica stone. Warren and Maitland selected Lexington linen sofas with Kravet pillows, and a pair of wing chairs to flank a two-tiered shell-topped coffee table. A Visual Comfort metal frame chandelier from Lighting First features deep mirrored arcs. A taupe-toned Jaunty rug resting atop European White Oak plank flooring from Gearing Floors adds warmth.

“Florida Lifestyle Homes is much more about the quality of the homes we build, rather than the quantity,” says Ennen, the company’s president. “We aren’t the biggest builder, which works in our favor. It allows us to pay close attention to every detail of the homes we build. In fact, we take such care that I can go and personally knock on the door of every home we have ever built and be welcomed in by the owners. We always get repeat business and we are very honored by the recommendations we receive.”

The dining nook floor is highlighted by a pattern of inset porcelain tile mirroring the ceiling detail above. Sheer window treatments of an abstract burn-out pattern frame pocketing sliding glass doors which, quite literally, bring the outside inside. The 72-inch gold-toned metal and glass-topped Vanguard table is surrounded by Designmaster Roland chairs. Overhead, a two-toned Hinkley chandelier blends traditional warmth and contemporary flair.

A professional chef would feel at home in this well-equipped Thermador kitchen. Open orbital Z-Lite pendants from Lighting First illuminate double islands topped with White Oblivion. Custom Lexington stools feature ebony wood legs and a modern Greek key fabric. Dove White Oyster and Driftwood cabinetry hood are from Allure Cabinetry and Showroom. An adjacent butler’s pantry and floating backlit wine storage also by Allure Cabinetry make entertaining a breeze. Overhead a 16-foot cross-beamed ceiling adds architectural interest.

The sophisticated tone of the master retreat is set by the Precedent bed with silver tufted linen headboard and nailhead detail. Custom Ann Gish bedding and a faux leather bench introduce champagne into the palette. Ebony stained wood is shown in the legs of the antique mirrored nightstands and a Durham Furniture dresser. A Sam Moore chair covered in charcoal velvet is paired with a champagne metal and petrified wood Aristica table. An Uttermost Cascata chandelier featuring a cascade of dark antique silver-leaf with polished-nickel jewelry chains hangs from the circles of the intricate ceiling.

A Crystorama chandelier of crystal rods from Lighting First overlooks the Clarke Sparta free-standing tub in the glamorous master bath. The diamond-cut faceted dimensional white marble backsplash creates a wainscoting effect and provides bright contrast to the dark bronze window frames and Allure Cabinetry Driftwood cabinets. A glass and chrome bar cart serves as a toiletry table atop the shining Porcelanosa flooring.

Part of what Florida Lifestyle Homes does so right is select a top team of professionals like the interior design duo of Sydney Warren and Luanza Maitland of Norris Furniture & Interiors.

“Working as a team, we are able to give our clients the best and most creative ideas,” says Warren, adding, “Our clients seem to enjoy the team approach.”

“We begin each new project 100-percent inspiration-based. We ask our clients to tell us about what inspires them, the way their family look best in a home, their entertaining style,” explains Maitland. “For most of our clients, their Florida home is the beginning of a new story for them. We want to capture their story and help them create it.”

A dramatic dark-beamed cypress ceiling protects the outdoor kitchen and dining area. The live-edge metal Castelle dining room table is paired with Lexington’s Del Mar woven rattan chairs. The granite-topped bar with chevron porcelain tile backsplash is outfitted by a quartet of Summer Classic aluminum stools.

Not a traditional pool shower, this private outdoor shower is accessed just off the home’s master bath. The floor matches the driveway’s paving stone while the tiled wall hosting the rainfall showerhead is zebra-cut irregular slate tile set in a linear pattern. The back is porcelain stone gradating from dark to light. A concrete American drum table and teak stool of woven strapping material complete this unique space.

In this case, that story is interesting and well-written. The design elements are distinctive, each making a statement. Florida Lifestyle Homes executed the memorable ceiling details for which the builder is known. In turn, the interior design team paid close attention to the selection of every lighting fixture, drapery fabric, furniture piece, and hard surface—ensuring a happy ending.

“We share a design aesthetic,” says Maitland, “and we work so well together that we even finish each other’s sentences!”

Iridescent charcoal and silver mosaic tiles border this stunning pool with raised spa. PebbleTec blue Hirsch Glass lines the interior of the pool and spa and chiclet LED lights change color at the touch of a button. Artificial turf runs under chaises and serves as a putting green just off the deck. The far end of the pool has a walk-in beach entry and features twin Magic Bowl™ fountains that pour water into the pool while showing a lighted fire effect.
