The front view of the home lends itself to the desired coastal transitional look. Light, earthy tones and stone detailing are present for a calming effect that is rustic yet refined. In contrast, roof tile with mitered hips creates uninterrupted clean, sharp lines. The driveway is vast with its large motor court. A three-car garage flanks one side of the house, while a single-car garage is located opposite.
Prospective homeowners looking for a casually elegant lifestyle are drawn to Pine Ridge Estates, a lovely Naples neighborhood offering estate-sized lots, many of which feature stunning lake views. The Baywood, at 4,703-square-feet with 4 bedrooms and 4½ baths, is offered by Divco Custom Homes, a builder in numerous luxury communities in Southwest Florida.
A modern custom-designed front door lets light flood into the extended foyer. A pair of large framed art pieces designed by Clive Daniel Home fills the ample wall space. For a layered effect, they are backed by Fabricut Giotto Sandstone wallcovering. Symmetry is achieved with twin consoles from Baker and two delicate Hudson Valley Archie light fixtures from Wilson Lighting. A metallic herringbone tile inset embellishes the floor.
The Baywood is not just a model, it is an “idea center” where new residents can preview possibilities, glean inspiration, and reproduce what appeals to them, or modify what doesn’t. “We tried to demonstrate a variety of ideas that would stimulate people to personalize the home to the way they would like to live,” says the home’s residential designer Alan Foster of Divco Custom Homes. “If this home isn’t precisely what they want, it’s a good starting point for something more tailored to them.”
The designers pulled a palette of chalky blue, gunmetal, and gold for the great room, where a focal wall features a painterly mural, with deckled edges intended to be “beautifully imperfect,” by Clive Daniel’s in-house artist. The elongated Clive Daniel Home custom console was fabricated by Design Studio by Raymond. The cocktail table and area rug are both Clive Daniel Home Originals, as are the pale ale sofas. Darkly-stained ceiling beams impart drama, while a soothing lake view lies beyond.
The builder worked closely with a design team from Clive Daniel Home—Rebekah Errett-Pikosky and Charlie Hansen—who have been design partners for six years. “He’s softer and more traditional, while I’m crisper and more modern,” expresses Erret-Pirosky. “It makes for a good outcome and gives our client the right mix of edginess and refinement.”
The Baywood would be sought-after even if it wasn’t just a one-mile drive to the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico—and location isn’t its only advantage. There are generous living spaces, long lake views, a luxurious and copious master suite, a dining room that borders the pool and lanai, and even a “flex room” to fit a variety of scenarios. “This room overlooks the lake and can serve several functions. It can be a second study dedicated to ‘her,’ or an exercise room, billiard room, or home theater,” says Divco’s owner Steve Kauffman.
The wine room is one for inspiration. “Initially, this was a fully glass-enclosed wine room, but we wanted more duplicity,” explains Foster. Now, not only is there wine storage and cooling, but with the addition of glass shelving in niches, dark ash gray cabinetry, and an eye-catching Pietra Antica Cirrus Dolomiti floor by Tesoro, a more decorative element is created, which is undoubtedly tempting to the home buyer who loves to bartend and entertain.
The kitchen is rich in contrast, with dramatic charcoal cabinetry by Design Studio by Raymond set against the Pompeii Avorio quartz countertops and island. The cook’s space is equipped with appliances from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery. The backsplash is mosaic Louvre Thassos from Alysium. A trio of Kichler Sitara pendants from Wilson Lighting makes a statement, and Wesley Hall’s basket weave counter stools impart texture. Black beams delineate the vaulted ceiling. The handsome oak flooring is Nightfall from Naturally Aged.
With so many women actively involved in business nowadays, the “flex room,” which is merchandised here as “her study,” really hits the mark. Powder blue walls ensure a stress-free workspace, and soft touches like the slate gray tufted sofa and ottoman from Clive Daniel Home Originals, and a plush neutral area rug by Surya are decidedly feminine. An elegant Caracole Work Force writing desk and Clive Daniel Home Originals chair help get the job done.
The dining room leads effortlessly to the lanai, a highly-desirable aspect of the home’s layout. An unadorned black wood dining table is surrounded by custom chairs whose backs are banded with the same Kravet print fabric as the draperies, adding cohesiveness. A unique nickel and frosted glass Kichler Stella chandelier from Wilson Lighting hangs overhead, and a shelving niche trimmed in mid-tone gray adds visual interest.
The most refreshing aspect of working with Divco, according to Errett-Pikosky, was their openness to creative ideas. “It’s nice when the communication lines are open between designer and builder. You can see the results of those conversations.” One example: the standout wall in the great room. “They wanted a feature wall that would not look like other model homes in the area, so we brought in a local artist to create a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork as the backdrop for the cabinetry,” explains Hansen.
Voluminous rooms allowed the designers to play with high contrasts of dark and light, and Divco’s willingness to take risks made it possible for them to explore the outer limits of coastal-transitional styling. “That’s what makes our job fun—to set a precedent and do fresh things,” says Errett-Pirosky
The master bedroom is beautifully-appointed and offers direct access to a covered lanai. The all-upholstered bed from Clive Daniel Home Originals is done in soft gray and features tufted detailing. Above it hangs a round, gilded mirror from John Richards that’s pure romance. On either side are stunning black Caracole nightstands which catch the tone of the modern ceiling fan from Fanimation. Black semi-gloss flat stock is applied horizontally along the headboard wall to lend a daring contemporary component.
The luxurious master bath is specifically designed for comfort with his and her spaces. The freestanding tub from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery is Jacuzzi’s Bravo. Clean, simple cabinetry was installed by Design Studio by Raymond. Keeping pace with the predominant color palette, the floors are Amazon Porcelain Silver honed tile.
The highlight of the welcoming lanai is a linear gas fireplace set within a feature wall fabricated with 24-by-24-inch tiles accented with Tesoro Metropolitan Cambridge Smoke mosaic inserts. Uttermost’s textured metal and sand wall plaques add interest, and the negative edge of the pool virtually flows into the lake. Modern woven seating facilitates a cozy, comfortable spot to take in a lakefront sunset that is unsurpassed.
The rear of the home is a showplace, with seemingly endless covered outdoor living spaces, and a large pool with an infinity edge. Artistic Pavers’ Shellock Atlantic Series incorporate natural shells, imparting a tropical twist. “We dedicated a good deal of time designing the outdoor living areas of this home, since that is where a lot of time is spent,” says Kauffman, adding that the idea of accentuating it with fire-water bowls was intended to create a stimulating focal point.
