Making this house a home fell to the talented hands of Nan Wright, owner and creative principal of Wright Interior Group, and Caitlin Heath, associate creative director.
“It was very gratifying to work with previous clients of ours who gave us creative license with this new home build,” says Heath. “They had specific needs for their growing family and we were able to accommodate those needs, all while providing a super stylish interior.”
Using a few of their signature design features, Wright and Heath treated each ceiling as an individual work of art and created flooring designs and wall treatments that mixed textures, patterns, colors, and styles in a way that set the home’s design apart from any of its neighbors.
“From the beginning of the project, we wanted to make their home special and unique to them,” says Wright, who emphasizes they develop an individual design style for each project.
“No two clients are the same. No two homes should be either.”
Matthew Kragh, president of MHK Architecture & Planning, and the skilled professionals of his firm, came prepared.
They brought with them to the design of this 3,180 square feet under air, three bedroom, three-and-a-half bath home in the Landings at Bear’s Paw, expertise gained designing more than 600 Old Florida style homes in Old Naples and surrounding neighborhoods.
“We understand the lifestyle that suits this area so well that we have been dubbed ‘The Florida Architect,’” says Kragh. “The perfect blend of indoor and outdoor living areas is what sets such designs apart.”
Kragh and his team at MHK Architecture & Planning designed most of the prototypes of homes at the Landings at Bear’s Paw, but happily made design adjustments to this British West Indies-style design for the homeowner, who bought it before the model was even completed.
The builder, Bill Fox, worked with Kragh on previous projects and found that those experiences meant he and Kragh worked instinctively well together.
“Combined with homeowners who were gracious and receptive and a pair of interior designers who had great vision and communicated so well, made the team project a delightful one,” says Fox.
Thin stained maple beams draw the eye upward in the great room. A Eurofase Zazu Pendant illuminates the Vanguard seating group sourced through International Design Source. Donovan swivel chairs in a link pattern and Michael Weiss Abingdon armchairs flank a custom two-piece coffee table. The Nash sofa is backed by a white bronze Sherrill Occasional Lund sofa table with Hancock and Moore Susa Chairside Tables graced by marbleized lamps on either end. A custom entertainment center, lit by Arteriors sconces from Wilson Lighting, fronts a wall of mineral blue fabric and wavy dimensional porcelain tiles.
The custom-designed mahogany and glass doors pay homage to the homeowners’ initials, and open into the elegant foyer. A Eurofase Fanton ring chandelier from Wilson Lighting hangs above the Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring in Giuseppina finish from the LaFamiglia Collection sourced and installed by Naples Flooring Company. The Theodore Alexander sideboard with stamped leather drawers and a cerused oak top and legs, host clear glass lamps. The mirror is indented to accommodate the oversize lamp shades.
The tongue-and-groove ceiling is enhanced with maple trim and mica wallcovering. A Eurofase Lighting Netto multi-tiered chandelier from Wilson Lighting illuminates this stunning dining room. Seating for eight is provided by blue leather-banded Vanguard chairs at the oversized square dining table with Metallic Starlight finish by Old Biscayne Designs from International Design Source. Embroidered drapes are by Anna French and a quartet of Bistro Globe Grand sconces border the abstract art from Wilson Lighting.
Elemental White Omega cabinetry sets the tone in this gourmet kitchen. A backsplash of Lunada Bay’s Watercolors tile is set above a countertop of Avorio Pompeii Quartz from Real Rock. A custom RangeCraft hood mixes stainless steel and chrome. Rejuvenation Haleigh split clear and opaque glass pendants illuminate a book-matched waterfall island, also from Real Rock, of Arizona Shadow quartzite. Guests may be seated on Fairfield stools of boxed metal and blue-gray chenille sourced through International Design Source. The kitchen has a complete Thermador appliance suite from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery, and a built-in 102-bottle wine cooler.
A Theodore Alexander bed has a triple panel subtly striped headboard and a blue mohair upholstered footboard from International Design Source, complete with matching Euro sham pillows. Organic bedding is by Legacy and twin chenille stools foot the bed. Matching Hooker Furniture gray textured nightstands, of quartered oak veneer and brass accents, hold glass lamps from Wilson Lighting. Banded window shades are by Hunter Douglas and glass doors are softened by Anna French embroidered leaf motif panels. The Jessica Charles chair is covered in antique velvet and the martini table is by Currey & Company.
Sculptural Edith mirrors, with silver polished metal frames by Bungalow 5, reflect the light of the gray crackle glass Tech Lighting pendants in this sophisticated master bath. Countertops are Superlative White marble from Real Rock set on smoke-stained underlit Omega cabinetry. A Vanguard Greer stool in copper vinyl adds sheen to the vanity space. The ceiling, painted in Agreeable Gray from Sherwin-Williams, is separated from the Romo tone-on-tone animal print wall covering by painted dark gray trim. The Porcelanosa Fray white flooring from Design Works lends a fabric feel with its linen texture.
Off the great room, the outdoor living room epitomizes the Florida lifestyle. A seating group of woven wicker cording and Sunbrella upholstery faces a linear gas fire feature, set in a combination of Strata Mist and 12 x 24 honed Hasia Light Travertine from DeMarco Tile, and flanked by painted ombre pots. A stone table and cylindrical Sunpan end tables invite icy drinks.
Holding pride of place on the shell stone deck is the custom seven-foot long stacked stone firewall, also set in the Strata Mist/Hasia Light Travertine combination from DeMarco Tile, stretching the entire width of the pool. Marazzi stained glass mosaic Tango tiles line the pool and spa. Three bubbler fountains provide a refreshing accent to the sun shelf Ledge Loungers. The Castelle chairs and chaises from International Design Source provide extra seating to soak up the sun.
The addition of the Strata Mist Travertine cladding from DeMarco Tile installed vertically at the home’s entry offers a contemporary multi-dimensional look unique to the neighborhood in this British West Indies home. The mitered roof tiles in shades of dark gray and composite wood-look metal doors on the three-bay garage offer contrast to the crisp white exterior. Bahamian shutters, decorative corbels, custom florals, and landscape design by Architectural Land Design make a tropical statement.
